Volunteer Opportunities in Asia

What is a voluntourism?

Voluntourism is travel which includes volunteering for a cause.

There are numerous types of voluntourism holidays, from low-skilled work such as cleaning up local wildlife areas to providing highly-skilled medical aid in a foreign country. Voluntourists are diverse but typically share a desire to “do something good” while also experiencing new places and challenges in locales they might not otherwise visit. Volunteer programme operators seek to educate their participants in various environmental issues and encourage their participation in community projects to heighten the awareness of these environmental causes to the local community.

Volunteer Opportunities in Asia

Volunteer tourism, aka voluntourism, is alive and well and growing in popularity. According to a survey in 2009 by Condé Nast Traveler, more than half of the respondents expressed an interest in taking a volunteer holiday in Asia. 20% of travellers polled in a survey had taken at least one volunteer holiday and most of them are likely to take another one. Then again, those who haven’t may discover that taking one is just the beginning!

Ecoteer offers a broad range of volunteer projects in Asia.
