Island-wide Sea Turtle Conservation – Perhentian Islands

It has always been my dream to help establish a turtle wide conservation effort in the Perhentian islands. It is now finally coming true. Help by donating now and we will be able to do more turtle patrols on nesting beaches around the islands.

In 2015 Ecoteer Responsible Travel are establishing a new sea turtle conservation project which will ultimately end in a Sea Turtle Conservation Action Plan for the islands. We will be starting a new photo ID project which will involve the local villagers and tourists to collect and submit photos of sea turtles. Our researchers will then look at each picture and use the scales on the flippers and face to identify individual turtles. Coupled with location, date and time data they will build up a map of sea turtle movements around the islands which we can then use to advise decision makers on sea turtle conservation in the islands.

We will also be patrolling different sea turtle nesting beaches around the islands to help offer extra help to the Department of Fisheries Staff with the ultimate aim of protecting more sea turtle eggs from poachers.

We need your donations to help fund our boats for the patrols, the more funds we have the greater number of patrols and beaches we will be able to protect.

GBP10 will fund 1 nights turtle patrol for 2 people.

We will give you a report on what happened that night so you stayed connected with the project as well as gaining a twice yearly report.
